Jen and Kellee host a weekly meme called "What Are You Reading? From Picture Books to YA." It encourages you to share what you read during the previous week and to plan what you're going to read/review during the current week. Thank you, Kelly and Jen, for hosting this fun meme.
The Dot. Written and illustrated by Peter Reynolds. Candlewick Press, 2003.
No International Dot Day celebration is complete without reading The Dot to fifteen classes. Sometimes I read it to an individual class, sometimes we read it with a class on Skype, and sometimes we watched the Weston Woods production. No matter the format or platform, we had a "dot-tastic" time discussing and celebrating this gentle and creative picture book. Thank you, Peter Reynolds and Terry Shay!
I love when I’m reading a picture book and I start making text-to-self connections to something I did in 1986. Even Aliens Need Snacks reminded me that I used to create sloppy dinners. I would mix together everything on my plate—salad landed on top of spaghetti, mashed potatoes tasted better with creamed corn and ketchup, and broccoli found itself smashed between chunks of meat. These delicious dinners (at least to six-year-old Johnny Schu) would gross out my entire family.
Ummm...I bet many of you just made a mental note never to invite me to dinner. :)
I read The Bronze Bow for the Newbery Challenge.
