Jen and Kellee over at TeachMentorTexts.com host a weekly meme called "What Are You Reading? From Picture Books to YA." It encourages folks to share what they read during the previous week and to share what they plan on reading during the current week. I am borrowing Mr. Colby Sharp's format. Thanks, Jen, Kellee, and Colby!

I love Donalyn Miller's 4th Annual Book-a-Day Challenge. It inspired me to read fifty-three books last week.



The Templeton Twins Have an Idea by Ellis Weiner

I will write a proper post closer to its book birthday (8/15/12).


The Chicken Problem by Jennifer Oxley and Billy Aronson

I read a lot of picture books. A LOT! When a "good one" comes "across my desk" it STICKS OUT. (What's with all the quotation marks and capitalized words?) The Chicken Problem is one of those books.

It inspired me to read it aloud to an empty room. (I really wanted to type that it inspired me to read it to my cat.) I'm going to take my hands off the keyboard and wait until September to properly celebrate this gem. Stay tuned!

According to Jennifer Oxley's bio, she's currently creating a television series starring the characters from The Chicken Problem.

I'm off to Anaheim, California, later this week for the American Library Association (ALA) annual conference. While I look forward to being around colleagues and friends, I am always disappointment with how little time I have to read during conferences. (Dear Self: Please relax, learn, connect, and have fun!)
