It's Monday! What Are You Reading? 6/11/12

Sunday, June 10, 2012

Jen and Kellee over at TeachMentorTexts.com host a weekly meme called "What Are You Reading? From Picture Books to YA." It encourages folks to share what they read during the previous week and to share what they plan on reading during the current week. I am borrowing Mr. Colby Sharp's format. Thanks, Jen, Kellee, and Colby!

I read sixty-one books last week. Here are three books I look forward to sharing with students and teachers in the fall.

Zero the Hero by Joan Holub and illustrated by Tom Lichtenheld

A teacher visits the library looking for a book that discusses the value of zero and will make his students laugh. I rush over to the NEW picture book display and hand him Zero the Hero.

A Home for Bird by Philip Stead

A teacher stops me in the hall to share how much she enjoyed reading A Sick Day for Amos McGee. She asks if Phillip Stead has written any other books. Later that day, she finds A Home for Bird in her mailbox.

Captain Awesome to the Rescue by Stan Kirby and illustrated by George O'Connor

A parent emails me looking for book recommendations for her third-grade son. His favorite characters are Frankie Pickle, Stink Moody, Fangbone, Lunch Lady, Squish, Captain Underpants, and Super Diaper Baby. I recommend Captain Awesome to the Rescue.

Three Times Lucky
by Shelia Turnage

Miss Hickory by Carolyn Sherwin Bailey

The Templeton Twins Have an Idea by Ellis Weiner
