Author Erica Perl

Donna Kouri recently finished her first year in a K-5 school library. She collaborates with teachers in her building, connects with schools around the country, and hosts authors on Skype and in person.

I invited Donna to discuss why her students connected with award-winning author Erica Perl. Thank you, Donna, for finishing my sentence starters. You rock!

*Educators should use Skype as a way to connect students with authors and give them insight into the world of writing.

*Erica Perl told my students how she developed her characters and the similarities (and differences) between the characters and her life.

*The best part of Erica’s visit was when she told the students about her upcoming book - Ace’s Wild. They were thrilled to hear there would be a sequel to When Life Gives You O.J.

*If you’re nervous about hosting an author Skype, don’t be. Erica Perl (and other authors) have all been so gracious and kind and the students are so excited to connect with them.

*Chicken Butt is just pure fun. It is impossible to read this book without giggling.

*When Life Gives You O.J. is a great book that students can relate to. It is touching and funny at the same time.

*Mr. Schu, you should have asked me about the class O.J. that the students created. In lieu of a living class pet they decided to create a class O.J. It was adorable and a real team building experience!
